The Scholarship Fund 501(c)(3) 

Our sister organization, the Women's Club of Great Falls Scholarship Fund, is an independent non-profit organization established in 1982 out of a desire to provide financial aid for students pursuing degrees in higher education. The Scholarship Fund is a separate, 501(c)(3) organization (the Women's Club of Great Falls is a 501(c)(7) social organization) that is run by a seven-member board of directors. The Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to deserving students who are residents of Northern Virginia and attend George Mason University or Northern Virginia Community College.  

In 2016, The Scholarship Fund Board established two separate $25,000 endowments at both George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College. In 2019 the Fund increased our endowments by $20,000 from a bequest from the family of Doris Fisher Irwin, our beloved founder. This year additional funds in the amount of $34,000, was raised in loving memory of long time supporter and friend Holly Ann Kuga, will be added. These endowments in their totality ensure that our scholarships will be granted in perpetuity. They reflect our Fund's strong desire and commitment to invest in our students and the community at large.  To further supplement the 4% yield paid by the endowments each year, fundraising activities are developed and sponsored by this Scholarship Fund Board. These fundraising activities also support scholarships that are awarded each year in addition to the endowment scholarships. On an annual basis, the Fund typically awards anywhere from eight to twelve individual scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each scholarship in addition to the three $2,500 scholarships from our endowments.
