May S.m.A.R.T. Forum Luncheon

Topic:

Today’s Home Safe Home –Easy and Affordable Tech to Protect your Home and Property

The S.m.A.R.T. Forum is excited to gather once again in May for another lively luncheon discussion of  “S”avvy  Wo”m”en “A”cquiring “R”ecent “T”echnology.    This month’s topic will focus on intelligent and easy ways to keep current when protecting your home and property from loss.

According to the National Council for Home Safety and Security and recent FBI statistics, Virginia ranks as the 17th safest state for property crime and the 22nd safest state for violent crimes.  While our local statistics may rank higher than the state average, safety remains a top concern in our community. With the accelerated development of neighboring commercial areas, the expansion of Metro, and population increases in both the Tysons and Reston areas, we observe growing pressure on the resources of our local law enforcement services.  Many of us contribute to the watchfulness and safety of our community, often by posting online to community alerts, as well as other Fairfax county publications. Others may have traditional home monitoring contracts.    But what more can we do to use today’s technology to deter crime in our community and to keep our own neighborhoods and homes safe?

Many new trends have evolved in home security systems as technology has improved, expanded, and dropped in price.  At our May forum, we will explore, debate, and demo wireless home security trends, video technology, subscription and self-monitoring options with mobile devices, and automated controls/monitoring of thermostats, humidity, and security lighting.  Guests are welcome to contribute to the demonstrations by bringing a device for consideration by the group.

Please join us on Tuesday, May 28th at 12 noon at Roz Drayer’s lovely home to consider the options and issues faced by our Great Falls residents and neighbors. The hostess will provide a light lunch with an entrée.    Please no food contributions, as we aim for our guests to focus on the forum topic and minimize the kitchen set-up time before we can begin our discussion.

To help defray the costs of the lunch, a non-refundable fee of $15 will be requested to hold your reservation.  Looking forward to seeing you at the S.m.A.R.T. Women’s Lunch Forum on May 28th.

If you have any tech to share, topic suggestions, forum ideas, or questions, please do not hesitate to contact Karyn Ryan at ryan10900social@gmail.com.   And if you are willing to host a gathering at your home next year, please let us know.
